Independent Performance Report: 6,000-Ton Automotive Manufacturing Chiller Loop with ElectroCell System

A February 2023 performance report details results from a 6,000-ton multi-chiller open loop at a major Alabama automotive manufacturing facility. Following installation of the ElectroCell System in June 2022, the plant recorded double-digit kW/ton reductions and a 99.5% reduction in suspended particles within 32 days.

Project Overview

ElectroCell Systems installed its XCell-6000 Particle Precipitator in June 2022 on one of five 6,000-ton chilled water loops serving a major automotive manufacturing facility in Alabama. The loop consists of three 2,000-ton chillers operating in an open-loop configuration.

The customer supplied monthly operating data, allowing calculation of kW per ton before and after installation. ElectroCell initially estimated a minimum 10% kW/ton reduction. Hourly trend logs (24 samples per day) were used to support performance comparisons.

Following installation of the ElectroCell System on a 6,000-ton automotive manufacturing chilled water loop:

  • Double-digit kW/ton reductions were achieved across three consecutive summer months
  • Efficiency improvements ranged from 13.6% to 17.2%
  • Suspended solids were reduced by 99.5% within 32 days
  • Particle concentration dropped from 1145 ppm to 6 ppm
